This website was designed to help beginners of Japanese build their proficiency by practicing with various online exercises. These exercises are used in tandem with the Nakama Japanese textbook in University of Virginia Japanese courses.

There are four basic areas of proficiency which students must master in order to progress as fluent speakers of Japanese. These areas are kanji stroke order, listening skills, basic vocabulary, and grammar comprehension.

If your browser does not properly display Japanese characters, you may need to access the NJStar Homepage and download a trial copy of their software. It is also recommended that you install Apple's Quicktime software for the embedded media contained in this site.
